Pichon Baron and Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, its neighbour across the road, started life as the same Pauillac estate. The second wine is Les Tourelles de Longueville, introduced with the 1986 vintage. The Cabernet dominant Baron de Pichon-Longueville is more muscular, tannic, and full-bodied than its neighbor across the road, Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande. The 73-hectare Pichon-Longueville-Baron vineyard (70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc) is adjacent to that of Château Latour and rests on deep gravel beds. In 2000, Christian Seely succeeded Jean-Michel Cazes as CEO. AXA built a state-of-the-art winery and cellar at Baron de Pichon-Longueville.
